Soon after releasing, "Hello, I'm Dolly" in 1967, Wagoner discovered her, recruited her into his band, and then convinced her to leave her label, Monument Records, and sign with his label, RCA Victor. They then recorded the above duet album. The only single, "The Last Thing on My Mind" was released in late 1967, and the album followed in early 1968.
